This contemporary P.1 “Pod” house can be used as the first small, compact, and efficient living unit in an expanded house or setting of several pods. Its flexible design will accommodate additional rooms and your ever changing lifestyle. Simply add another pod to increase the livable space in the future or add another story right from the beginning.
As as a stand alone unit it offers all the amenities for a single person or a couple
as a house, guest suite, or studio. The main floor of this modern house plan is perched
above a carport that also serves as an exterior entertainment area. Its contemporary
design is based on a spacious open floor plan within a compact foot print. Also note

The Stair Tower
The standard staircase tower of this contemporary house is a semi exterior space. Covered and protected it allows you to reach the top dry and safely. The exterior siding is out of an open modern slat look to allows for natural ventilation. The result is loosely based on the Charleston, SC, false porch entry. The main entry door leading to the landing is tugged underneath the second floor.
This entry staircase unit is meant, however, as the base unit for an entry. It is meant to easily exchange for a custom designed stair that fits your specific site condition, or for a connector piece if you group a number of these modern pods together. Each connector would allow for a stepped arrangement of pods or any design you desire.
The Pod System
With the “Pod” system we are addressing the economic times and also the endless variety of life styles. We also tried to create a contemporary house that can grow and adapt with the changes that life brings. The P.1 functions as a base modern unit. It is conceived for a single person or couple. It is efficient, affordable, yet spacious and playful. It can be used as a house, a guest suite, or studio. By adding another unit the base pod can be extended for extra bedrooms now or in the future. By using a different connector unit in place of the base unit’s stair case, the P.1 pod can also grow into an arrangement of several living units or a larger home.
